Hair transplantation can be hit or miss.  For clients whose treatments are not successful, they are often left with significant scarring on their scalp, which can easily be recognised by the patterns.  For other types of scarring from injuries/surgeries, it is quite common for hair to stop growing from the scarred area due to the damaged structure of the skin.  Scar tissue forms to protect the injured area from further injury, and everyone scars differently.  Scalp micropigmentation can be done around and within scar tissue to entirely disguise it from view.

SMP for scarring must be trusted to skilled and experienced professionals.  Scarred skin tissue is different from healthy skin and must be approached in a different way to achieve the best results.  While the artist uses slightly different technique and equipment on the scar tissue, the final appearance is exactly as it is on healthy scalp skin.  Hiding the scar and naturally blending it in.

Scar camouflage is only one benefit that SMP has to offer those with scars on the scalp, weather it be a surgical hair transplant scar or caused by other injuries.

An added benefit of SMP for scarring is the actual smoothing and reduction of the scar itself. During the treatment, fine needles are used to prick your skin. During the skin-pricking process, your skin produces more collagen in an effort to heal the small wounds from the needles. The theory is that new collagen that is formed will help smooth out your scar’s appearance.

This is a critical step in SMP Scar Camouflage. If we were to insert pigment into a keloid or hypertrophic scar, or a scar that has a lot of knots or tough collagen in it, the pigment will migrate and pull, giving you a very poor result.

It is important to flatten out the scar as much as possible. This process can take weeks to accomplish, however, if you are looking for the best SMP results possible, this step is crucial.
